Once Bitten : the Adventures and Misadventures of a Young Veterinary Surgeon
by Nick Marsh May 2016
When Alan Reece qualified as a veterinary surgeon at the dawn of the new millennium, he had a plan: save the world, one animal at a time.Of course, no plan survives contact with the enemy, and Alan soon discovers he has far more enemies than he was expecting – aside from vicious pets, difficult owners, surly farmers, and children from hell, he finds himself working with an unhinged and jealous surgeon who makes it his personal mission ruin Alan’s life.
Battling long hours, life and death decisions, tragic cases, a complaint from the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and an unexpected love triangle, Alan’s hopes of saving the world are quickly replaced with a simple question:Can he even last a year in practice?
Once Bitten, is the story of a young vet’s first few months in practice, and how they changed his life forever.

Wonderful book ! As an owner of 4 dogs, and Rescue foster mom, always enjoy picking up a new book about dogs, rescue, or Vet medicine. Nick Marsh hit it out of the park ! Nice book for new Vets. British sense of humor always a joy. There are some serious topics as well, but written well and informative.
There is something irresistible about a book that comes from the heart, and that’s what this is. A real pleasure to read from start to finish. Made me laugh so hard I spat my morning coffee all over my kindle, then not long afterwards it had me crying my eyes out. Please take off your rosey coloured spectacles though, and be prepared if you are a pet owner to take a good look at yourself…Nick Marsh has a way of getting you thinking about the animals around us, be they pets, wildlife or farm animals, in terms of their well-being first and our emotional baggage second. Highly recommended! Hope there are more to come.
